GEORGIA ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE 30
Saturday October 29 2011, Sunday, November 6, 2011 and Saturday November 12, 2011
(Atlanta, GA, November 15, 2011) The Antigua & Barbuda Association of Georgia (ABAG) celebrated the twin island nation’s 30thanniversary of Independence with much pomp and circumstance on November 12th at the Diamond Hall & Conference Center in College Park Georgia.
Beautiful Caribbean people from a variety of countries came together in a room awashed with the colors of the Antigua & Barbuda’s national flag. The entertainment line-up was packed with performances by legendary and contemporary artists. Antiguan born R&B vocalist Arianna Whyte, opened the festivities by singing both the Antigua & Barbuda and the American national anthems and then later serenaded attendees with her unique melodious voice.
The mistress of ceremonies, the charming and talented Monica Matthews, regaled the crowd with poetry that evoked memories of carefree days running barefoot on the islands with a charm that kept the audience entertained throughout the night. The night’s entertainment continued with Antiguan artist Kenne Blessing and King Danskie who rocked the crowd at various times during the night. The Atlanta based “After4” band made a spectacular debut that brought the crowd to its feet with their rendition of well known soca and calypso tunes.
Classic tunes and patriotic songs from such legendary artist as King Swallow, Short shirt, and Obstinate among others were spun by the famous DJ Chickie of Chickie Hi-FI who flew in from Antigua for the occasion.
The program also included awards to two young scholars of five hundred dollars in scholarship funds for the pursuit of higher education. One of the organization’s members, Ralph Gordon, was recognized for his tireless dedication to the Antigua & Barbuda Association of Georgia.
According to ABAG President Hanesworth Lee ”Our goal was to set the bar high in celebration of our 30th Anniversary of Independence from, the venue, to the food, the décor, the entertainment, and everything in between. This organization has definitely garnered itself an A+”.
